Army Rolling Out New App For Soldiers to Digitally Streamline Fitness Test Results

The Army is set to roll out a new fitness performance documentation mobile app this fall to streamline how Army Fitness Test results are recorded and entered into soldier’s official training records.

The service said in a Sept. 9 statement that the new app, AFT Go, will allow soldiers to see their fitness test scores before they leave the physical training feed.

The application aims to eliminate manual paperwork and data entry, per the service. It will allow individuals to view PT test schedules and results, see test participants, and check times when soldiers are scheduled to take or grade a test, the Army said in a video tutorial released in March.

Members of the Army Training Information System (ATIS), a training data system, joined the Army Geospatial Intelligence Battalion on July 20 to test the application.

Testing helped the Army work out the functionality of the application and garner feedback for better implementation.

ATIS is the Army’s authoritative training data system, which provides tools to record, manage and report individual and unit training information.

The Army describes it as a single-entry point for training records—from weapons qualifications to mandatory training and Mission Essential Task assessments—that essentially reduces soldiers’ digital burden and provides leaders with better time management.

Beta Testers Praise the App

Beta testers said the new fitness app had an intuitive design and said it saved time through direct uploads, the Army said.

“We put the soldier first in everything we do,” Christie Murphy, product manager for ATIS, said in a statement. “Continuous, live user feedback helps us improve soldier-facing software and rapidly deliver capability to enhance readiness across the Total Army.”

The app guides users through every event and makes planning, recording and completing the test efficient, according to the Army. After tests are completed, results will automatically update authoritative Army systems, including the Soldier’s Individual Training Record, eliminating duplicate data entries.

Measuring fitness is crucial for ensuring soldiers are prepared for real-world battlefield movements rather than basic endurance—a critical cornerstone of military doctrine as it directly impacts mission success, reduces field injuries, and builds mental toughness.

By maintaining strict physical standards, the Army ensures every soldier, regardless of their role, possesses the strength and stamina required to deploy and win on the modern battlefield.

New Army Fitness Tests Unveiled in June

The announcement follows a previous Army directive replacing its fitness test with new performance standards.

The new Army Fitness Test (AFT), which began in June, consists of five parts—including a three-repetition maximum deadlift, hand-release push-up army extension, sprint-drag carry, plank, and a two-mile run.

Those serving in combat specialties must achieve a minimum of 60 points per event, and an overall minimum score of 350.

The tests are gender-neutral. This standard of fitness has been a policy priority for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

“We need to have the same standard, male or female, in our combat roles,” Hegseth said in a video posted to the social media platform X in March. “Soon, we’ll have nothing but the highest and equal standards for men and women in combat.”

At the time, the Army said it aimed to “enhance soldier fitness, improve war fighting readiness, and increase the lethality of the force.”
