The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides a stipend of up to $1,000 per year for books and supplies.
Post-9/11 GI Bill students are eligible to receive up to $1,000 for books and supplies per academic year. This applies to active-duty members, veterans, reservists and National Guard members who have qualifying active-duty service, as well as dependents using transferred benefits.
The $1,000 annual stipend is equal to $41.67 per credit hour for a maximum of 12 hours per semester. So, for each typical semester you are enrolled as a full-time student, you will receive $500. The money is paid directly to you at the beginning of each semester. If you are not enrolled for a full year or as a full-time student, you will receive only a portion of the $1,000 annual maximum amount.
The books and supplies stipend is payable to all Post-9/11 GI Bill recipients attending:
- Colleges or degree granting institutions
- Vocational/technical training, non-degree-granting institutions
- Apprenticeship/on-the-job training programs
- VA’s VET TEC 2.0 high-tech program
The money is yours to spend as you see fit. The VA requires no receipts on your part. It is also non-taxable.
