Are cars back? Honda has just announced sales figures for May, and its passenger car sales hit their highest levels since 2021. That includes the Civic, which is doing better than it has in the last five years. As for Accord, it’s on a three-year high. Acura’s car sales were solid, too, with its only car selling close to twice as many units as a year ago.

Last month, Honda dealers moved 26,995 Civics, including the sedan, hatch, and Type R. That’s 4.6% more than it sold a year ago, and Honda says it’s the best month for the car since June 2021. The Accord also posted strong numbers, with 18,688 total sales putting it up 33.3% year over year. That one is the best month for Accord since May 2023.

Add them up and include the 318 units of the Prelude coupe, and you have 46,001 Honda cars leaving dealers. That’s 15.5% higher year over year, and the 183,181 year-to-date figure represents a gain of 11.5% from 2025.

Buyers picking cars were also picking hybrids in big numbers. Sales of the Civic hybrid were nearly flat at 8,450, but the Accord hybrid sold 33% more and hit 9,414. That’s just over half of total Accord sales last month.

Over at Acura, the last few TLX sedans are trickling out to customers. Production ended over a year ago, which helps explain the 48 sales last month. Instead, car buyers at Acura are taking home the Integra. The company sold 2,968 last month, up 67% from a year ago. Total sales for the year are 11,436, up 34.6%.

Acura’s crossover sales show that the Integra isn’t exactly snapping up everyone. The ADX, the smallest Acura crossover, beat it with 3,179 units. This is its first full year in production, making that figure a good sign for the brand, but a bad one for car fans.

Sales of the Honda Civic have been sliding since 2017. The brand hit a high of 377,286 that year, which put it in the 8th spot on the list of the bestselling vehicles. It has fallen off sharply since then, though it has recovered from its worst performance in recent history in 2022. That year, Honda sold just 133,932 for 25th spot on the list.
