Military horror movies have been sending troops into haunted trenches, cursed jungles and secret Nazi laboratories for decades. This Halloween, you can watch a surprising number of them without paying for another streaming subscription or dropping $5.99 on a rental.
Military.com previously rounded up some of the best military horror movies for the Halloween season. For Halloween 2026, this guide focuses on movies currently available to stream for free in the United States, including titles on Tubi, Pluto TV, The Roku Channel and other ad-supported services.
A few are also available through Kanopy or Hoopla, which typically require access through a participating library or university. Streaming availability changes frequently, so the services below were checked as of Sept. 27, 2026.
Here are 10 military horror movies you can stream for free this Halloween, in no particular order.
1. ‘Shadow in the Cloud’ (2020)
Where to stream free: Tubi, Kanopy and Hoopla
Putting a gremlin on a B-17 Flying Fortress sounds like somebody combined two completely different World War II movies after midnight, but that is essentially the setup for Shadow in the Cloud.
Chloë Grace Moretz stars as Maude Garrett, who boards a B-17 carrying a top-secret package during World War II. The bomber soon has problems coming from Japanese aircraft outside and something considerably stranger crawling around the plane. If your preferred Halloween viewing requires .50 caliber machine guns along with its monsters, start here.
2. ‘The Devil’s Rock’ (2011)

On the eve of D-Day, two New Zealand commandos arrive in the Channel Islands to destroy German gun positions as part of the Allied deception surrounding the Normandy invasion. Then they discover the Nazis have been dabbling in the occult.
The Devil’s Rock traps its commandos inside a German bunker with a supernatural experiment that could become another weapon for Hitler’s forces. It is currently available free on several ad-supported platforms.
3. ‘R-Point’ (2004)

One of the most unusual Vietnam War movies on this list comes from South Korea.
Set in 1972, R-Point follows South Korean soldiers ordered into the jungle after their base begins receiving radio messages from a patrol that disappeared months earlier and is presumed dead. The rescue mission quickly becomes considerably harder to explain. Director Kong Su-chang later described the film as an anti-war story wrapped inside a supernatural horror movie.
4. ‘Trench 11’ (2017)

The trenches of World War I hardly need monsters to become horror-movie material, but Trench 11 adds biological experiments anyway.
Near the end of the war, Allied troops investigate a German underground complex buried beneath the Western Front. What they discover turns an already claustrophobic mission into a military body-horror movie involving the remnants of a German weapons program.
5. ‘The Guard Post’ (2008)

Korean horror returns to the list with The Guard Post, from R-Point director Kong Su-chang.
World War I has produced plenty of visceral movies about life in the trenches without filmmakers needing to add monsters. Trench 11 decides to add them anyway. An investigator arrives at an isolated military guard post after nearly an entire platoon is found dead. The surviving soldier cannot provide many answers, and the investigation leads toward a mysterious outbreak inside the installation.
6. ‘Dead of Night,’ aka ‘Deathdream’ (1974)

Unlike the battlefield stories that dominate lists of the best Vietnam War movies, Deathdream is interested in what happens when the war follows a soldier home. Years before A Christmas Story, director Bob Clark made one of the stranger horror movies to emerge from the Vietnam era. A family learns that their son Andy has been killed while serving in Vietnam. Then, Andy comes home.
The 1974 film, originally released as Dead of Night and widely known as Deathdream, uses its undead-soldier story to examine a family struggling with what war has brought back to their doorstep. The Museum of Modern Art has described the movie as a post-Vietnam reworking of The Monkey’s Paw.
7. ‘Shock Waves’ (1977)

If Halloween demands underwater Nazi zombies, Shock Waves has the assignment covered.
The 1977 horror movie stars Peter Cushing and follows the survivors of a shipwreck who encounter an abandoned island and the remnants of a Nazi experiment involving undead soldiers.
Tubi describes them rather efficiently as “zombie stormtroopers,” which is also a pretty good indication of whether this movie belongs on your October watchlist.
8. ‘VFW’ (2019)
Where to stream free: The Roku Channel and Hoopla
No ghosts are required for VFW.
Stephen Lang leads a cast that includes William Sadler, Fred Williamson and Martin Kove as veterans spending the night at their local VFW post when a young woman runs inside seeking protection from a violent gang.
The veterans barricade the building and start using whatever they can find to defend it. The result plays as a siege movie drenched in old-school splatter horror.
9. ‘Blood Vessel’ (2020)

Most of the World War II movies service members and veterans recommend don’t involve vampires hiding aboard German warships.
Blood Vessel takes a different approach. Near the end of World War II, survivors from a torpedoed hospital ship are drifting through the North Atlantic when they encounter an apparently abandoned German minesweeper.
Boarding it solves the immediate problem of being stranded at sea. The vampires onboard create another one. Blood Vessel puts Allied military personnel and civilians aboard a Nazi vessel whose crew has met a particularly grisly fate.
10. ‘Frankenstein’s Army’ (2013)

Nazi super-soldier experiments have practically become their own military-horror subgenre, from Overlord’s zombie-producing laboratory to the mechanical abominations waiting for the Soviets in Frankenstein’s Army.
By the closing days of World War II, there are plenty of things Soviet soldiers pushing into Germany should reasonably expect to encounter. Frankenstein monsters are probably not high on that list.
Frankenstein’s Army follows Russian troops who stumble across a secret laboratory where a mad scientist has been combining dead soldiers, machinery and the work of Victor Frankenstein into a new generation of Nazi super-soldiers. The 2013 found-footage horror movie has one of the widest free-streaming footprints on this list.
