Smith & Wesson Extends Partnership With New Mexico State Police

The New Mexico State Police have selected Smith & Wesson’s Performance Center M&P9 M2.0 Metal Carry Comp as its primary duty pistol. The decision continues the department’s relationship with the legendary gunmaker.

“The New Mexico State Police has enjoyed an outstanding partnership with Smith & Wesson since 2007,” said New Mexico State Police Chief Troy Weisler. “That year, we adopted the Smith & Wesson .357 SIG, a platform that met our operational needs exceptionally well at the time. As technology evolved and our requirements changed, we remained confident in Smith & Wesson’s ability to deliver. In 2011, we transitioned to the M&P 1.0, then to the M&P 2.0 in 2016, and most recently, in 2025, to the M&P Full Size Series Performance Center Metal Carry Comp.”

“Smith & Wesson is proud to uphold our longstanding partnership with the New Mexico State Police,” said Mark Smith, Smith & Wesson president and CEO. “Their continued use of our products, paired with their steadfast trust in our brand, represents the highest form of endorsement we could receive. We are privileged to be designated as the standard duty pistol for the New Mexico State Police and anticipate many more years of this esteemed partnership.”

“Over the past 18 years, Smith & Wesson has been far more than a vendor; they have been a trusted partner, committed to providing our officers with reliable, life-saving tools,” Weisler explained. “[The company’s] focus on quality, performance, and innovation directly supports our mission and plays a vital role in ensuring our officers make it home safely each day. On behalf of the New Mexico State Police, I would like to thank the entire Smith & Wesson team, especially the engineers and support staff, for their steadfast dedication to law enforcement. We value this enduring relationship and look forward to many more years of working together.”

The announcement from New Mexico comes only weeks after the Montana Highway Patrol selected the Smith & Wesson M&P9 2.0 as its standard-issue sidearm. That department’s carbines are also now M&P15 SBRs.
