First Look: Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0C Comp 9mm Pistol

Springfield Armory has released the new Echelon 4.0C Comp 9mm pistol, a variant of the 4-inch barreled compact Echelon 4.0C pistol that has an integral compensated variant. The new Echelon 4.0C Comp is set up for service like the full-size Echelon 4.5F pistol but with an integral compensator for more control and performance.

“The Echelon 4.0C took everything that made the original Echelon so popular and sized it down to offer users an exceptional and concealable duty-grade EDC pistol,” said Steve Kramer, Springfield Armory’s Vice President of Marketing. “With its integral compensator, the new Echelon 4.0C Comp takes the performance of this concealable pistol to the next level.”

The integral compensator featured on the 4.0C Comp is designed with a single port on the top of the hammer-forged slide and barrel. This setup redirects the expanding gas upwards, reducing muzzle rise and enhances control. This results in a pistol that delivers faster and more accurate follow-up shots. This is helped by a front sight that is positioned behind the compensator for an uninterrupted sight picture.

The guts of the Echelon 4.0C Comp is the patent-pending Central Operating Group. This self-contained and serialized stainless-steel chassis that can be easily moved in seconds between available grip modules to change the pistol to fit the shooter’s hands. The Echelon 4.0C Comp comes standard with the small grip module and three interchangeable backstraps, while medium and large grip modules can be purchased separately.

The Echelon 4.0C Comp is fully ambidextrous, and the pistol’s adaptability is further enhanced by the innovative Variable Interface System, which uses patent-pending self-locking pins to ensure consistent and reliable point of aim/point of impact. The pins can be positioned to fit the footprints of a wide range of popular optics, allowing for direct-mount fit for almost any optic. Complementing this sighting system are U-dot iron sights with a U-notch rear sight and a tritium/luminescent front dot.

The Echelon 4.0C Comp comes standard with a flush-fit, 15-round magazine and an extended, 18-round magazine. There are also reduced-capacity, 15- and 10-round models for restricted locales.

MSRP for all variants of the Echelon 4.0C Comp is $749, and more information on this pistol and other products from Springfield Armory is available at springfield-armory.com.
