First Look: RCBS 6.5 Creedmoor X-Die

RCBCS just added another die to its popular RCBS X-Die lineup with its new RCBS X-Die for the 6.5 Creedmoor X-Die. The RCBS X-Die is intended for handloaders who want to extend the life of their brass and reduce the amount of time they spend trimming said brass. RCBS incorporates a patented mechanism into the X-Die series that cuts out the need for repeated brass trimming after the initial case preparation has been done. This unique system includes an internal specialized mandrel that actively limits the stretching of brass during the resizing process which negates the need for extra trimming. This also retains the critical case geometry dimensions required for accuracy in rifle shooting.

“This new X-Die brings speed and efficiency to reloading a popular cartridge,” said RCBS Product Manager Steve Koch. “With this sizing die, shooters can go multiple firings without trimming cases—while still maintaining proper headspace, neck tension and reliability.”

A product of the late 2000s, it took some years for the 6.5 Creedmoor rifle cartridge to gain some steam on the market. It finally hit critical mass around the mid 2010s when the shooting public realized this short-action cartridge’s full potential. The round was designed by Hornady and its case geometry based on the original .30 Thompson Center rifle cartridge. Part of what makes the 6.5 Creedmoor enjoyable to shoot is that it uses lightweight to mid-weight .264-inch (6.5mm) bullets which tend to buck the wind better and retain flatter trajectories over longer distances. The case design and relationship to the rifle’s throat was also created with precision in mind.

RCBS X-Dies are 100-percent American made, and sets are available for full-base, neck-size and small-base reloading. In addition to the new 6.5 Creedmoor addition, the lineup also includes .223 Rem., .30-’06 Sprg. and .308 Win.
