VA Health Care Enrollment Process

VA Health Care Enrollment Process

Veterans are eligible for a comprehensive health care package that is completely portable across the entire Department of Veterans Affairs health care system. To receive health care, most veterans must first enroll.

Application Process

To apply for VA health care benefits, including enrollment, veterans must fill out an application for enrollment, VA Form 10-10EZ, Enrollment Application for Health Benefits. You may obtain this form by one of the following means:

The VA uses the 10-10EZ application to determine if you have qualifying service as a veteran and your status so you can be placed into one of the Enrollment Priority Groups. You’ll need:

  • Your Social Security number and those of your spouse, if applicable, and/or dependents
  • Information from your current health insurance card

You can also provide:

  • A copy of military separation documents, such as Form DD-214
  • Details about your military service, including exposure to toxins
  • Income from jobs and other sources for you, your spouse, if applicable, and any dependents; along with deductible expenses. For non-service-connected care, your household income will help determine your Enrollment Priority Group.

After Enrolling

Once enrolled, you will remain enrolled without having to reapply for benefits annually. However, some veterans will need to update their financial information yearly to keep their enrollment priority current. VA will contact you when or if it is necessary to update your financial information.

To determine if you qualify for VA health care, visit the VA Health Care Page to get started.
