A European watch company has launched two new watches, inspired by U.S. Navy SEALs.
The watches, made by the Swiss luxury watchmaker Panerai, a company that was once the official supplier of gauges to the Royal Italian Navy, are now available to purchase on the company’s website.
“Ideals of challenge, bravery, team spirit, and adrenaline are at the core of Panerai’s values,” the company said on its website. “The Navy SEALs, developed with the elite military force in mind, are a true testament to the fortitude and determination that both Panerai and the Navy SEALs embody.”
Watch Specifications
One of the watches is called the Submersible Navy SEALs AfniotechTM Experience Edition PAM01089. This 47mm watch is made of 35 pieces and uses a metal, hafnium, a metal some 70% heavier than stainless steel, which is used in aerospace, nuclear technology and other industrial contexts. It was designed with 1,000 meter water-resistance and has blue and green luminous elements so it can be read underwater.
Those who purchase the watch, which costs $12,400 and was first advertised in April, will travel to an undisclosed location in Florida for a three-day immersive program inspired by the Navy SEALs.
The other watch, called the Submersible Navy SEALs PAM01738, has a 44mm stainless steel case and was designed with 500 meters of water resistance. It also had technology to make it visible in low-light conditions and synchronization technology to make it reliable in different operating conditions. Panerai said the watch had endured enough stress testing to mimic 10 years of wear and tear.
It was unveiled in June and has now been released to global boutiques with a $12,400 price tag.
Other Recent Watch Launches
It follows other similar launches by other companies. Earlier this month, watch brand Luminox launched a new watch with the Navy SEAL Foundation as part of its ongoing partnership with the naval charity.
The $925 watch is called the Luminox Navy SEAL Foundation 3220.XS.3228.NSF and is made of IP Gun stainless steel to promote durability and toughness. It is blacked out and has an anti-reflective sapphire crystal above its dial. The watch offers 200-meter water resistance and is supported by a screw-down crown and screw-in case back for added protection against water intrusion, according to Luminox, while a sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating further enhances durability and readability.
Luminox now has nine watches in its Navy SEAL Foundation collection, with proceeds from its collection supporting the Naval Special Warfare community and their families.
“We value all the sacrifices the Navy SEALs and their families make to bring safety and security to this country. They are an essential part of Luminox’s history, trusting us and becoming a guide for our brand. Continuing our relationship with the Navy SEAL Foundation gives us the chance to give back to the community that has provided us all with so much,” Lumondi CEO Lluis Sole said in a statement in 2021.
