‘Terminal List’ Prequel Series ‘Dark Wolf’ Delves into the Darker Side of Warfare

‘Terminal List’ Prequel Series ‘Dark Wolf’ Delves into the Darker Side of Warfare

Those who loved “The Terminal List” television series won’t have to wait long for the newest iteration of the show. “The Terminal List: Dark Wolf,” an espionage thriller that takes viewers on Ben Edwards’ (Taylor Kitsch, “Lone Survivor”) journey from Navy SEAL to CIA paramilitary operator, explores the darker aspects of warfare and the human cost that comes with them.

The show is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Aug. 27, 2025.

Based on the bestselling “The Terminal List” books from author Jack Carr, the series revolves around SEAL James Reece (Chris Pratt, “Jurassic World”), who has lost everything and seeks revenge for the death of teammates and family. Beginning with the release of “The Terminal List” in 2018, Carr — who served two decades with the Navy SEALs — has written seven books so far in the series; the eighth, “Cry Havoc,” is scheduled to be released in June and will center around Tom Reece, James’ father.

Carr co-created ‘Dark Wolf’ with ‘The Terminal List’ Season 1 creator-showrunner David DiGilio. ‘Dark Wolf’ is a prequel series that follows Edwards in the events leading into that first season as he is discharged from the SEALs and forced to join the clandestine side of CIA special operations.

(For those who still intend to watch “The Terminal List” for the first time, you might want to skip the rest of this sentence, because here’s a spoiler alert: James Reece killed Edwards at the end of the final episode of “The Terminal List” for taking part in the conspiracy that led to the death of Reece’s family.)

“This series takes everything we built in Season 1 — the intensity, the brotherhood, the moral complexity — and turns the dial up,” Carr said in comments provided to Military.com by a public relations representative. “It’s rooted in the same authenticity that mattered so much to us the first time around, but the scope is bigger and the emotional stakes even deeper. As someone who lived this life, I couldn’t be more proud of the team that brought it to the screen.”

Besides Pratt — who is reportedly scheduled to appear in two episodes — and Kitsch, “Dark Wolf” boasts a strong cast of characters that includes Raife Hastings (Tom Hopper, “Game of Thrones”), Jules Landry (Luke Hemsworth, “Thor: Ragnarok”), Mohammed Farooq Mo (Dar Salim, “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant”), Jed Haverford (Robert Wisdom, “Barry”), Ernest “Boozer” Vickers (Jared Shaw, “The Tomorrow War”), Eliza Perash (Rona-Lee Shimon, “Fauda”) and Tal Varon (Shiraz Tzarfati, “Theodosia”).

It was important to ‘Dark Wolf’s” creative team that the show remained true to the Navy SEAL culture and prioritized authenticity, leaning heavily on military consultants:

  • Former SEAL Jared Shaw is an executive producer, technical adviser and cast member who plays “Boozer.”
  • Former U.S. Army Ranger Max Adams is a writer, second-unit director (which usually involves filming action sequences) and executive producer on the series.
  • Former SEAL Ray Mendoza (“Warfare”) serves as a military technical adviser and second-unit director.
  • Former SEAL Kenny Sheard is a writer/producer on the show.

Those fans in the “The Terminal List” universe have anticipated more since the original series was released in 2022. Now here comes ‘Dark Wolf,’ and if “The Terminal List” — which was a popular, if not a critical, success — is any indication, it should do well.

As for the second season of “The Terminal List,” fans will have to hold out for a bit longer. There is no firm release date, but Gabriel Luna (“The Last of Us”) and Costa Ronin (“The Americans”) are joining the cast.
