The U.S. Marine Corps recruit who recently died during a fitness test has been identified.
Pvt. Aiden Craig was the recruit who died Aug. 5 from a medical emergency suffered during a physical fitness test at Camp Pendleton, Calif., according to Task & Purpose. The 18-year-old reportedly earned the posthumously title of Marine, according to Steven Posy, a spokesperson for Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.

Task & Purpose, citing Craig’s service record, reported that he enlisted in the service on June 1, 2026.
Military.com originally reported how Craig experienced a medical emergency on Aug. 1 while undergoing the scheduled fitness evaluation. He was rushed to the Tri-City Medical Center in Oceanside, Calif., and succumbed to the illness four days later.
The Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton was established in 1942 as a World War II training facility. It became a permanent installation by 1944 and is the primary West Coast base of the U.S. Marine Corps.
It serves as the only West Coast military installation for comprehensive air, sea, and ground assault training. The base is also an EPA Superfund site due to historic water contamination.
