EA’s $55 Billion Sale is Now Finalized

EA’s Billion Sale is Now Finalized

The sale of Electronic Arts for $55 billion USD has officially been completed as of August 4. The previously public company will be removed from the stock market, as EA will now be fully private.

EA was originally established back in 1982, and has been a publicly-traded company since 1989. Back in 2025, EA announced that it would be sold, making it just one of the many game industry companies experiencing major shake-ups in recent times.

It was previously revealed that the EA acquisition deal was expected to close on August 4, and that has turned out to be accurate, as EA has now officially gone private. Per a press release, the acquisition of EA by PIF, Silver Lake, and Affinity Partners, which are collectively being referred to as The Consortium, has been completed. The $55 billion deal is the biggest leveraged buyout ever, which has seen $20 billion added to EA’s overall debt. With the company’s removal from the stock market, stockholders will be granted $210 for every piece of EA common stock that they owned when the deal was completed. Multiple parties involved in the acquisition have shared statements praising EA, and sharing plans to focus on sustained growth, innovation, and in AI to “enhance game development and player experience.”

Although the purchase has now been completed, it hasn’t been a very smooth path to get to that point. Concerns have been raised by gamers, with some expressing worries that EA’s properties would experience changes under the new ownership. This has been of particular concern to The Sims 4‘s community, as the game has often been celebrated for its inclusive themes. In this deal, the majority owner of Electronic Arts will be the Public Investment Fund of Saudia Arabia, and gamers have been worried that its ownership could mean changes to existing game franchises. However, EA has tried to assuage those concerns leading up to the closure of this deal.
