Call of Duty Movie: Here’s What You Should Know

Paramount and Activision have officially confirmed that Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg will co-write and produce the live-action adaptation of Call of Duty, one of the world’s most successful video game franchises. That’s right, the most famous first-person shooter in history is finally heading to the big screen, and it’s being helmed by two of Hollywood’s most battle-tested storytellers.

Berg, whose filmography includes Lone Survivor, Patriots Day, and Deepwater Horizon, will also direct. Sheridan, the Oscar-nominated writer behind Hell or High Water and the creator of Yellowstone, Sicario, and Mayor of Kingstown, will help script the movie alongside Berg — reuniting two filmmakers who know their way around both firefights, moral fallout, and awesome military flicks.

A Perfect Match for Military Storytelling

If there was ever a duo built for a Call of Duty movie, it’s Sheridan and Berg. Both have a knack for portraying the military in grounded and respectful ways. Their combined resumes read like a boot camp for action realism.

Berg, who directed Lone Survivor, knows how to direct films that highlight the bonds and heartbreak that define service. Sheridan’s writing follows the same pattern: Sicario and Wind River explore the price of violence and the erosion of moral clarity under pressure. So when it comes to adapting a game franchise that’s equal parts action and allegiance, this pairing feels more like destiny than coincidence.

Landmark Deal To Bring The Game To Screen

Paramount, now operating under its Skydance parent company, has officially joined forces with Activision to produce the live-action feature film.

“We’re approaching this film with the same uncompromising commitment to excellence that guided Top Gun: Maverick, ensuring it meets the exceptionally high standards this franchise and its fans deserve,” said David Ellison, CEO of Paramount. “We’re resolute in our mission to deliver a cinematic experience that honors the legacy of this one-in-a-million brand — thrilling longtime fans while captivating a whole new generation.”

Under the deal, Paramount will develop, produce, and distribute the Call of Duty movie, bringing its blockbuster filmmaking expertise to a franchise that has already sold over 500 million copies worldwide and has held the title of the #1 best-selling video game series in the U.S. for 16 consecutive years.

The partnership promises to deliver a film that’s “authentic, exciting, and epic,” according to both studios, with a goal of honoring the brand’s rich narrative DNA while expanding it for entirely new audiences.

“With Paramount, we have found a fantastic partner who will help take that visceral, breathtaking action to the big screen in a defining cinematic moment,” said Rob Kostich, President of Activision. “Our shared goal is simple — to create an unforgettable blockbuster movie experience that our community loves.”

For veterans and gamers alike, the Call of Duty name carries real weight. It’s not just a game; it’s a shared language of tactics, teamwork, and survival. Translating that intensity to film is no small mission — but with Sheridan and Berg, the odds are in their favor.

What We Know So Far

While plot details remain classified, here’s what’s confirmed:

  • Studio & Production: Paramount, in partnership with Activision and 101 Studios.
  • Writers: Taylor Sheridan and Peter Berg.
  • Director: Peter Berg.
  • Genre: Military action thriller with grounded realism.
  • Franchise Potential: The deal reportedly includes options for sequels and TV spin-offs.

Sources say the story will lean into Call of Duty’s signature tone — gritty, tactical, and deeply personal, focusing on the human costs of modern warfare rather than sci-fi spectacle. If the creative team’s track record is any indication, expect something closer to Black Hawk Down than Battlefield Earth.
