Baldur’s Gate 2 Remake Could Be In Production

A Baldur’s Gate 2 remake may already be underway, according to a new report. This Baldur’s Gate 2 remake could bring players who started the series with Baldur’s Gate 3 an opportunity to experience to the earlier titles, but with a more modern experience.

Baldur’s Gate 3 took the gaming world by storm, selling millions of copies, earning tons of awards, and generally put Baldur’s Gate on the map for a new generation of gamers. With 25 years separating the release of the original Baldur’s Gate and Baldur’s Gate 3, there are many who had likely never heard of the series, but now are eager to explore more of what the franchise has to offer.

Baldur’s Gate 2 Remake Reportedly in Production

According to a new report, a remake of Baldur’s Gate 2 is already in development. The news came via PC Gamer, which didn’t share its source, but seemed confident in the details. Baldur’s Gate 2 received a remaster back in 2013, but this project is reportedly a full-fledged remake. Fans of the original will likely be excited to know that the original co-lead designer of the game, Kevin Martens, has returned to work on the remake. In addition to Baldur’s Gate 2, Martens also worked on titles like Neverwinter Nights, Mass Effect, and Diablo 3, and currently on the upcoming Mass Effect-like game Exodus.

There isn’t a concrete answer as to whether the original Baldur’s Gate is also being remade, but it’s looking likely. It’s thought that they may both be being worked on simultaneously, but this isn’t confirmed. Baldur’s Gate 2 is a direct sequel to the first game, with a returning playable character, so it wouldn’t make much sense to release them out of order or to ignore the original title completely. However, with that in mind, there’s currently no known timeframe for when these games might come out. It’s possible that an announcement could be made during the upcoming Summer Game Fest or other summer reveal shows, however.
