America’s Full-Size Pickup Truck War Is Heating Up

America’s Full-Size Pickup Truck War Is Heating Up

Full-size pickup trucks rule America. That goes for public streets, and private meeting rooms at the automaker than build them. And the battle is getting a little exciting as we pass the halfway point in 2026.

These trucks dominate the sales charts and the balance sheets of the Detroit Three. Now Ram is pulling closer to being the number two truck than it has in a very long time, and General Motors is pulling away from Ford when you combine Silverado and Sierra sales. The gap between F-Series and Silverado is a little tighter, too. But Ram is the only one posting a big sales increase, and nobody knows why. Actually, we’re pretty sure everyone knows why. Let’s look at the numbers as of June 2026.

Full-Size Trucks Are More Than 2 Million Units Per Year

Together, Ford, GM, Ram, and Toyota have sold 1.07 million full-size trucks this year, excluding EVs. That includes light duty trucks (F-150, Ram 1500, etc.) and HD trucks (F-250, Sierra 2500, etc.). It’s a big figure, but in the same period last year, the same brands moved a few more: 1.09 million to be exact.

Ford and Ram are the two that are really moving the needle. Ford, thanks to an ongoing issue with an aluminum supplier, has lost 46,859 F-150 and Super Duty sales this year, while Ram has picked up 33,296. GMC lost 8,414 sales, and the Toyota Tundra was down 598. All total, figure around 20,000 buyers simply decided they didn’t want (or couldn’t afford) a new truck right now.

Between the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra lines, GM sold 236,136 trucks in the second quarter of 2026, and 436,954 in the first half of the year. That beats Ford’s 195,479 and 352,960, respectfully, but the F-Series will remain the top seller. Why? Because Ford has one brand, while GM splits sales between two – the Silverado at 142,745 for Q2 and Sierra at 93,391. Ram sold 110,166 for the quarter, and Toyota 39,752. If you have number fatigue, don’t worry. We have nifty charts for you below.

GM North America President Duncan Aldred said last month that gas prices were impacting the company’s full-size truck sales. That’s likely the same at Ford, which has recently received good news about its production supply chain and hopes to make up around 50,000 lost units over the rest of the year.

Light Duty, Big Sales

2026 Ford Lariat Credit: Ford Motor Company

Breaking out the LD and HD trucks, the F-150 remains on top. Ford is the only one of the HD truck companies that doesn’t break out light and heavy in its sales charts, but it does split out the production of the two so we can estimate.

The estimate doesn’t have to be that close, because the sales total isn’t. Ford moved about 123,152 F-150s in Q2 and 222,365 for the half-year. Chevy was second with 94,992 and 179,393 Silverado 1500s, while Ram and GMC’s Sierra 1500s were neck and neck with Ram posting 66,669 and 125,522. GMC sold 66,211 in Q2 and 118,068 so far through the year.
