10 New York Military Discounts

New York is home to such a wide variety of events, tours, attractions, dining, culture, shopping and entertainment that you’ll never run out of things to do and see.

If you’re planning a trip to New York, make sure you include a stop at some of the following places that offer military discounts.

The 9/11 Memorial Museum offers active-duty military, retired military and 9/11 family members free admission. The Museum displays artifacts associated with the events of 9/11, and admission tickets include entry to all exhibitions.

The Bronx Zoo has fun exhibits like the Congo Gorilla Forest, Himalayan Highlands, Tiger Mountain, and Madagascar!, featuring species of animals from around the globe. Active-duty military and veterans are eligible to receive a complementary Bronx Zoo Admission or Limited Admission ticket for themselves and 50% off tickets for up to three guests.

The mission of Manhattan’s Carnegie Hall is to present extraordinary music and musicians on their three stages. Veterans and active-duty members of the military can save 20% on tickets to selected events. There’s a limit of two tickets per person, per event.

The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), located in Midtown Manhattan, offers active-duty military members one free admission for themselves and up to five additional tickets for family members with a valid ID. Free admission is also available for military families with dependent cards. These discounted tickets are available at the Ticketing Desk.

The Empire State Building in Midtown Manhattan offers a military discount when showing your military ID onsite to purchase a discounted ticket. The military discount is not available online. Active-duty military personnel, in uniform, can visit for free.

The Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum lets you explore history aboard the aircraft carrier Intrepid, a National Historic Landmark. The Intrepid Museum offers active-duty military and veterans free general admission.

The New York Aquarium, which is just off the Coney Island boardwalk in Brooklyn, includes 14 acres of exhibits and attractions like their Conservation Hall and Sea Cliffs. The aquarium offers active-duty military and veterans a complimentary Admission ticket for themselves and 50% off tickets for up to three guests. Advance ticket reservations are required.

Trying to figure out how to get around the city? The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) offers active-duty military personnel off-peak fare on LIRR and Metro-North with a valid ID.

If you’re looking for a place to stay, keep in mind that many hotels, like Best Western, offer military discounts. (For more information on hotels, check out our list of lodging military discounts.)

One World Observatory tops One World Trade Center, the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. After a Sky Pod Elevator ride, you’ll see amazing views of New York City up to 45 miles in every direction. Show your military ID, and active-duty and retired service members get 50% off full-priced Standard Experience admission packages and 20% off for up to four guests.

Want to see New York from the water? Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises has guided sightseeing tours with great views of the city, including the Statue of Liberty both during the day and at night. And they offer a 50% military discount on cruises.
