Find out why homeowners are purposely and increasingly choosing pink colors for home décor.

Colors count

When artists paint, most select the best colors to convey their feelings and gain emotional responses from viewers. In home décor, the use of color can express mood and provoke emotions.

Looking to create a positive environment?

Intentionally choose pink. This pale tint of red is known to evoke feelings of comfort, happiness, and excitement, making it an ideal choice for home décor, both indoors and out.

Correlations abound

The correlation between color and human behavior and emotions is undeniably strong. In fact, it has become a field of study with wide-ranging applications.

Scientifically backed

Color psychology is a scientifically backed field of study that focuses on understanding how colors impact human behavior. It is hoped that color psychology can be used in medicine to treat multiple physiological and psychiatric conditions to include seasonal affective disorder, age-related cognitive decline, depression, hypertension and more.

Strategic use to influence consumer behavior

Advertising, branding and marketing companies are also greatly interested in how people respond to different colors to sway consumers and promote goods and services.

Wait, isn’t pink a girly color?

Pink is generally considered a pale tint of red, but it can also be slightly bluish. While it’s true that pink is often associated with love or femininity, it is also a universally loved color that can breathe new life into any space, particularly outdoor spaces in need of warmth, sophistication, and charm.

Pink revival

Pink was an important symbol of nobility and royalty in the 18th century. During the 19th century Victorian age, pink was frequently used on home exteriors to pleasingly showcase and emphasize exquisite architectural details and to symbolize wealth. Nowadays, modern-day homeowners can use pink to highlight special home features. From soft pastels to bold fuchsias, today we have an abundance of shade variations from which to choose. Pink is now experiencing a rebirth – giving homes outstanding appeal.

Shades of Pink

Per Sweetishhill.com, there are about 29,000 shades of pink currently known to man. Each can be made with different combinations of hues such as red, white, yellow and purple.

Happy energy

Pink has superior energy. Not only does it inspire confidence, but it promotes youthfulness, fun and excitement.

Let’s explore some shades of pink and how to apply them to home décor.

  • Baby pink is a soft and tender shade of pink that is frequently used for baby showers. Best use: A baby’s room.
  • Blush pink is a medium bright shade that complements gold and brass accents by adding a touch of luxury. Best use: A painted door with brass hardware.
  • Cameo pink is inspired by the color of a conch shell and has a grayish purple/pink hue. This shade is associated with nature and the outdoors. Best use: A painted outdoor pergola.
  • Carnation pink is a lovely shade inspired by the petals of carnation flowers. Best use: Sofa color against a neutral beige background.
  • Deep rose is a light medium bright shade of pinkish red. Best use: Architectural accents or outdoor planters or window boxes.
  • Fuchsia is a very bright and playful color. Best use: A child’s playroom.
  • Hot pink is bold and energetic. This is best when used in moderation to not overwhelm the scenery. Best use: Artwork or throw pillows.
  • Nude pink is a very soft neutral shade. Best use: Painted interior walls.
  • Salmon pink is a medium-light shade that gets its name from the flesh-colored fish. Best use: A single painted accent wall or accessories (vases, photo frames, sculptures…)
  • Tea Rose is a color inspired by the petals of the pink tea rose flower. It is a little lighter than a baby pink shade. Best use: Dinnerware and tablescapes.
