2025 has arrived, and later this month we’ve got SHOT Show and all that that brings with it. But that doesn’t mean companies won’t be releasing stuff before then, and of course the ultra-busy crew at Civivi have a few things hitting shelves ahead of the big show, including the Merit.
Although Civivi is positioned as the mid-range label in the We Knife Co. family, there is a notable amount of variety within its lineup; some knives aim for collector-friendliness, while others stay laser-focused on usability, practicality, and reliability in role – that role, of course, usually being everyday carry knife, a genre that Civivi has certainly made a name for itself in serving; even its earliest models were targeted at the EDC tag.
In fact, it is one of those very early models that the Merit reminds us of: the Courser. It is not a one-to-one replica of that knife by any means, but the aesthetic and general intent seem to line up. Like the Courser, the Merit’s drop point blade is a clean, flat ground drop point, although it’s a bit smaller than the Courser blade, measuring 3.28 inches compared to that one’s 3.45-inch length. Opened with either a flipper or a thumb stud, it is made from 14C28N, the Civivi standard-bearer these days when it comes to stainless steels.
No huge surprises on the handle either: the crew kept it clean and calm, with a finger groove and a nice smooth arching profile overall. G-10 scales are available on the Merit in three different colors: black, OD green, or the rarely seen but always welcome ivory G-10; that last version is the Merit that comes with a damascus blade. One canvas Micarta flavor is being served up too, in another unconventional coloration: purple! Naturally that’s the version we chose to showcase in our feature image.
The Merit is set to arrive just ahead of SHOT Show this month.
